Full-Time Experienced CAD Designer Needed | Packaging Development Team
Job Description
We’re currently looking for an experienced CAD Designer to join our packaging development team. If you have a strong background in structural carton design and enjoy creating practical, production-ready packaging solutions, this could be a great opportunity for you.
This role is ideal for someone who understands how packaging must not only look good but also function perfectly on filling lines, protect the product, and remain cost-efficient.
About the Role
As a CAD Designer, you’ll be responsible for developing structural packaging designs from concept through to production. Your work will directly impact product protection, manufacturing efficiency, and overall material usage.
You’ll collaborate closely with sales, graphics, die-making, and production teams to ensure every design works smoothly in real production conditions.
What You’ll Be Doing
Structural Design & Development
- Designing folding cartons and paperboard packaging structures
- Creating functional elements such as dust flaps, tuck-ins, and locking mechanisms
- Recommending suitable board grade and thickness based on product weight and fragility
- Ensuring designs run efficiently on manual and automated filling lines
- Balancing strength, usability, and cost-effectiveness
Prototyping & Testing
- Producing accurate physical samples using digital plotting or sample-making equipment
- Conducting fit tests by placing the actual product inside the packaging
- Performing drop tests to ensure product protection
- Adjusting designs based on client feedback or production requirements
Die-Line & Production Files
- Creating detailed die-lines including cut, crease, and perforation lines
- Preparing final structural files for graphic designers and die-makers
- Specifying nicks and stripping points for smooth die-cutting
- Ensuring embossing, debossing, or foil elements align correctly with the structure
- Double-checking files before tool manufacturing to avoid production errors
Cost & Material Optimization
- Arranging designs efficiently on sheets or reels to reduce waste
- Maximizing board utilization and minimizing scrap
- Supporting the sales team with accurate material consumption data
- Continuously improving structural efficiency and cost control
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in packaging structural design
- Proficiency in ArtiosCAD, Impact, or AutoCAD
- Solid understanding of paperboard behavior and grain direction
- High level of precision and attention to detail
- Good mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong coordination skills with cross-functional teams
Experience in high-volume carton or paperboard packaging environments will be an advantage.
