We’re currently searching for an experienced SPMT Assistant Engineer (Road & Highways) to join our heavy haul transportation team. About the Role
As an SPMT Assistant Engineer, you’ll support heavy haul transportation projects from start to finish. Your work will include helping plan transport routes, preparing technical drawings, supervising SPMT operations on site, and making sure everything runs safely and smoothly.
You’ll work closely with project managers, construction teams, and equipment operators to deliver transport solutions that are practical, safe, and efficient.
This role suits someone who is technically strong, organized, and confident working directly on site.
What You’ll Be Doing
Transport Planning & Engineering Support
- Assist with heavy haul transport planning and development of technical solutions
- Prepare transport layouts and drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software
- Help optimize routes, equipment setups, and loading/unloading methods
- Review road conditions, site access, and terrain to support safe transportation
Site Execution & SPMT Operations
- Support SPMT activities during cargo loading, movement, positioning, and unloading
- Provide on-site technical guidance to operators and field teams
- Monitor equipment operations and ensure work follows technical and safety standards
- Respond quickly to site challenges and help adjust plans to keep projects on track
Temporary Works & Support Structures
- Assist with the design and checking of temporary support piles and load platforms
- Review survey and geotechnical data to confirm ground stability
- Make sure support systems meet load requirements for safe transport operations
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Help prepare SPMT operation manuals, maintenance procedures, and method statements
- Support preparation of support pile drawings and technical documents
- Record project experience and contribute ideas to improve internal workflows
Team Coordination & Technical Assistance
- Work closely with project managers and construction teams to align technical requirements
- Support training of site staff on SPMT equipment and heavy transport procedures
- Assist during tender stages by contributing technical input and transport concepts
What We’re Looking For
- Around 10 years of experience in heavy haul transportation, including at least 5 years working directly with SPMT systems
- Good understanding of SPMT operations, structural behaviour, and load distribution
- Experience with temporary works and support pile design
- Comfortable using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar drafting software
- Strong practical knowledge of heavy transport route planning
- Hands-on site supervision experience
- Able to handle unexpected site issues calmly and professionally
- Willing to travel frequently and stay on site during project execution
- Solid background in mechanics, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, or transportation engineering
- Familiar with safety standards and heavy transport regulations
